I
am not sure whether we used a word, ‘brand shopping bag,’ for the first time.
At that time, I was worried about which direction we were going in because we
didn’t have any differentiated things compared to other companies, and there
was a galaxy of shopping bag companies.
The one different thing was that we
targeted for brands, so we started to use a brand shopping bag.
This is not a
proper noun, so anyone can use this.
I just simply expressed our company as a
specialized company in a brand shopping bag because we produced shopping bags
for several brands.
Later on, I realized that it was such a foolish thing to
name our company a brand shopping bag company by ourselves after I sorted out
my thoughts. When I had my doubts about our company’s identity again, I knew
that a real brand shopping bag company should produce the right products to a
brand’s concept instead of just making shopping bags for the brand.
Thus, I
have always considered what meaning a company specialized in a brand shopping
bag has.
Then, we finally set a concept of our company as ‘we produce brand
value,’ and now strive for maintaining the concept.
I wanted to represent our company
as different and special compared with other shopping bag companies.
This was
because I have seen lots of companies handling with brand shopping bags
whenever I searched ‘a brand shopping bag’ on Naver.
In fact, there are lots of
companies that domestically supply shopping bags in South Korea, but most of
them bring a lot of paper bags from China.
This is because products made in
China are totally cheap, and there are many types of paper in China.
We deal
with Korean brands, but we focus on the domestic consumption in China more.
It’s
such a funny word, but the number one in China would be the world’s top?
However, I am actually scared of making a deal with several big Chinese brands.
This is because they place too many orders more than 10,000,000 or 20,000,000.
If we use various machines to produce shopping bag, it’s not a big deal.
However, it is not easy for us to manually produce them all. We can’t actually
expect.
We don’t compare with a great deal of companies in Shanghai. There are
only few shopping bag companies in Shanghai.
Most of factories are located in
Jiangxi, Guangzhou, Shandong, and Jiangsu. Lots of companies that are possible
to mass-produce goods have opened.
But, why we have our sales company in
Shanghai…?
We actually became conscious of other places by doing sales in
Shanghai that is getting developed as a central city.
There are the world’s top
five hundreds businesses in Shanghai.
I don’t believe in fortune, but I think
it is a common thing for us to stay in Shanghai because we have a distinct goal
and purpose.
One of my friends who works at the famous department store in
Shanghai sometimes introduced several brands to me.
Whenever I met them, they
were surprised at my business. They always asked me how I could win the
competition with Chinese companies.
Is it awkward that a Korean person runs a
shopping bag factory in China?
One of the managers I met said that it’s really
hard to compete in price with Chinese companies. Also, the one more strange
thing was that I usually communicated with the managers through my
Korean-Chinese translator. When I spoke Chinese to her, she translated it
again.
This situation confused the managers a little bit. Later, I met one
executive being in charge of a famous brand in China, and he said my idea was
wrong.
He pointed out some problems that I competed with Chinese companies as a
Korean in China and brought a translator with me.
One was right, whereas the
other was wrong…
I knew that a Korean person couldn’t win the price competition
with Chinese people in China.
We knew that our company couldn’t compete with
any Chinese companies in unit price. Our unit price is higher than that of
Chinese companies’ shopping bags.
Also, I felt that bring my translator with me
was really wrong.
This was because the executive might want to directly
communicate with me. It seemed like insincere.
Anyway, as I mentioned above, we
can’t compete in unit price. We know this really well.
We actually compete with
other Chinese companies in our own ways. In fact, we have never succeeded. One
Chinese clothing company that deals with us now knows that our unit price is
more expensive. However, they believe that we give them a higher quality
shopping bag. Likewise, it is not easy to produce a brand shopping bag. We
should have something to represent a brand value and identity better in order
to make a winning move, but it’s actually a big deal. An estimate is always a
problem.
However, we are just slowly going forward.
Our Chinese boss and
several employees definitely know why I am in this harsh country as a Korean
person and where we are going into.
We strive for sharing why we make shopping
bag for brands, what the brand value is, and what our goal is.
We do our best
on producing our own things.
