It’s
December, 24th, at 6 p.m. It might be 7’o clock in Korea. Everyone
in our factory in Yiwu doesn’t care about any holidays, Christmas or the end of
the year.
We just do our best on folding shopping bags. We know tomorrow is
Christmas, so I prepare several apples to wish all the employees peace.
In
Chinese, apple becomes 苹果, pronounced as Pingguo.
Peace is 平安, pronounced as Pingan. The pronunciation of those two words is
similar, so I usually give them apples on Christmas Day. Other factories do so.
Office workers also don’t care about any holidays and do their best on work.
Tomorrow, we all come to work at 8 a.m., have a meeting at office, and fold a
shopping bag in a factory at 7:30 a.m. We are a pillar of export. Everyone
probably knows Christmas Day is not a holiday here. It is natural to work on
the day.
I am really hungry. I just ate two pieces of bread for lunch.
I will
listen to songs of Mariah Carey, put rice into Shin Ramyun, and drink a cup of
Cheongdo beer. I have gotten a call from Mr. Yoo who is in Cheongdo. I asked
him what to do on the day, and then he said he was going to drink beers. Lots
of people welcome to Christmas, the end of the year, and the beginning of the
year alone.
They feel lonely for a while. Afterwards, they start to worry about
their own tasks for tomorrow and a month later. Ms. Ring said that dinosaurs
appeared in the square. What’s she talking about…?
We will meet at 8’o clock
tomorrow morning and have a meeting together. After then, to do each other’s
duty, Mr. Kook goes to an outside factory, Mr. Whang checks qualities in a
factory, Ms. RiRi adjusts accounts, and Ms. Chin fills out a production
schedule.
Nothing will be changed because of the Christmas day. It will have
passed by like other days. No matter who says something, a sewing machine is
working well and well regardless of the weather and holidays. We need to make
600,000 shopping bags a month.
